BEYOND 2020 Call for Abstracts (until 31st July 2019)

As part of an SBE | Sustainable Built Environment conference series, BEYOND 2020 will not only serve as a stand-alone world conference with independent paper requirements and review process, but will also embrace the key findings from the 16 Regional Conferences taking place worldwide in 2018-2019.

You can submit your abstract (max 300 words + 150 characters-title) until 31^st July 2019.

The call for papers will be open in October 2019, after the notification for abstracts. Papers should be 8 pages (including references) – proper instructions will be provided later on.

Abstracts (and then papers) will be double-blind reviewed. Accepted papers will be published by IOP proceedings on the Earth and Environmental Science Journal with ISBN/DOI.

Dr. Lin De-en delivered speeches about Meteorology and Climate Change

Dr. Lin De-en is one of TSSBE's Director, and his relevant experiences are as follows.

January 2016, was invited to go to Taipei Long-Shan Temple, and give "Climate Change and Religious Culture" lectures, response has been enthusiastic. March 2016, attended the "2016 TCCIP Workshop on Applications of Climate Change Projection" at NCDR (National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction).

March 2016, was invited to go to the Air Force Institute of Aviation Technology, and give "Climate Change and Humanistic Education" series of lectures, the participants highly appreciated.

April 2016, was invited to go to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and give "Flight Safety Invisible Killer—the wake turbulence" lecture.

May 2016, was invited to go to the Shu-Te University, and give "How Meteorology to Influence the building and living space" lecture.

Dr. Day Yeong-tyi, one of TSSBE's Director, was invited to be part of the committee of judges at the 5+2 Environmental Art Design Cup of China Institute of Architectural Decoration and Design held by the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25, 2015. Based on the themes "interconnection" and "symbiosis", the contest was open to environmental design schools in western China. Gold, silver and bronze medal winners were selected under the categories: architecture, landscape and combination. The day after the contest, Dr. Day delivered a speech at the forum entitled "Lost in the Greater Symbiosis", which was about the blind spots in human thinking and self-salvation in a world of climate change and frequent disasters. Dr. Day also served as a commentator in the symposium for exchanges in environmental design teaching.

MOU between TSSBE & Kaohsiung City Government and Shu-Te University

TSSBE sponsored and co-organized workshops, conference and an MOU in Kaoshiung and Pingtung with Kaohsiung City Government and Shu-Te University from Sep. 21 to Sep. 28, 2015. We invited Mr. Nils Larsson to be our keynote speakers and engaged in workshops and conference. The two cities, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, are located in the southern Taiwan. Main organizers and hosts for these events were Dr. Paul Chou, Dr. Daphne Chang and Dr. Annie Kuo. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between iiSBE and Pingtung City Government for future cooperation in environmental policy development, and a meeting was held with Dr. Joseph Yen-yi Li, Secretary of TSSBE.
Three long and intensive workshops were held with graduate and senior students focused on SB Tool, exploring details of its structure and how a version for southern Taiwan could be developed. Several site visits were made from local to wetland areas that serve as nature reserves and temporary reservoirs during periods of heavy rain, and a light rail system that is being developed to link the two cities and to reduce the very heavy automotive traffic intensity.
Finally, we made a site visit to a local solar farm that has been combined with agriculture in an interesting way by the Sunny Rich Power Company, with PV panels providing partial covering over an area planted with fruit trees, and a semi-transparent PV roof over a section devoted to vegetable production.

GBML manual 2015 was published

The members of TSSBE (iiSBE Taiwan), Dr. Chiang Che-ming started to lead the Green Building Material (GBM) Label project in 2004, and Dr. Tsay Yaw-shyan continuous the job of PA, Dr. Lin Fang-ming was the co-PA since 2014. This year (2015), the new version of manual of GBML was published, and Dr. Tsay and Dr. Lin are the chief editor.
The GBM Label of Taiwan promoted by ABRI (Architecture and Building Research Institute, Ministry of the Interior) was officially launched in 2004 to systematically and effectively evaluate the performance of GBM. The objective of the GBM Label is mainly to enhance the built environment and to provide the actual benefit toward the concept of human health and earth sustainability. The GBM of Taiwan is defined as an ecological, healthy, recycled, or high-performance building material that is capable of efficiently minimizing impacts to earth environment and damage to human health during its entire life cycle.
By the end of June 2008, 131 Labels had been conferred covering 1032 products, and the amount raised up to 1346 labels/ 9638 products until the end of July 2015. In addition, the regulation of at least 5% mandatory green building material utilization has also been involved into Taiwan’s Building Code since 2006, and the regulation had risen up to 45% indoor and 10% outdoor since 2012.

The Promotion of Solar Community in Kaohsiung City

The TSSBE, member Joseph, Li Yen-yi and colleagues took the leadership to promote the first middle capacity solar community in Kaohsiung. The promotion was conducted three solar communities in Kaohsiung for both private apartment and neighbor-park. The TSSBE members helped to establish the system and evaluate the best performance in a 328-unit apartment.

The New Sustainable Campus Promotion

join the project and to adopt new concept and technology toward more sustainable campus.

During those days from November 2009 to February 2010, the TSSBE has continuous step by step to join and promote Ecocity and Sustainable Building development in Taiwan. There are some important events which TSSBE co-hosted and attended aggressively:

2009 Conference on Green Building -towards Eco-City, Taipei -
The TSSBE members also had been invited to submit and present the new research results and exchange the idea and experience in Taiwan and the same concept of the SBTools.
The Innovative Actions on Global Urbanized-Regions under the Crisis of Violent Climate:
The 2009 International Forum on Kaohsiung Ecocity and Sustainable Building Environment - This Forum invite six countries keynote speakers from urban to building technology. During the 8th August 2009, a natural disaster, “Moralok Typhoon”, hit the land and caused large amount destroyed zone. Under the circumstance of the threats for ordinary life, the public sector should prepare for the next impact from the climate. Therefore, Kaohsiung City Government held an international Forum on Kaohsiung Ecocity and Sustainable Building Environment on 2 Nov. 2009. The objective of the forum is to exchange the experience form the global issues to local company and try to make the perspectives in exchanging the solutions or technologies in different countries. The keynote speakers and the discussants are from varied fields. The first speaker is Mr. Lin, Chiun-Sin, who is the President of Archilife Research Foundation and the Committee Member of National Sustainable Development Committee to talk about the topic as “Effective Thoughts on Regional Development Management in Sub-tropical Region under the 100,000 year Climate Disaster”. The TTSBE is also one of the main hosts to express the sustainable concepts to the participants. The results also directly conduct the City Government to promote a holistic strategy to construct the Eco-Kaohsiung.
The Action Plan Project to the solutions of Urban Heat Island Effect Reduction –
This Project is one of the TSSBE group to take more focus on the scientific based solutions to real city: Kaohsiung. The study starts from July 2009 to March 2010, and it also takes two communities to make the renovation for a better cooling city model in two years.
